Alumni match: Dogs 29, NOBs 24
The undergrads outlasted the NOBs in the heat, and the push to complete the endowment begins.
Thank you to everyone who showed up and played at Alumni Weekend. It means a lot to the club to keep the tradition alive. Thanks to Graham for refereeing, and to Pete for playing with the undergrads (don’t ever do that again, Pete!).
We played four hard-fought ten-minute quarters of 10-a-side in 90-degree heat. Tries went back and forth until the Dogs outlasted the NOBs with some late surgical kicking for a 29–24 win. It is not acceptable that we lost, NOBs!
The NOB starting fifteen(ish): Chris “Spoons” Lofgren, Ben Miller, Dave McDermott, Zack Kennedy, Jarrad Langley, Dave Wedge, Bob Smith, Colin Talbot, Mike “Apu” Sebastian, “Long Haired” Pete Madden, Nick “Swelly” Sherman, Paul “Roberto” Costa and Eric Graham.
Finishing the endowment
As we turn to the fall, it’s time to finish funding the endowment. It’s the next vital step in giving alumni money a stronger voice at the university, and it will give the students a consistent yearly gift to plan their budgets around. The endowment matures next June and needs $100,000 to reach full maturity, after which the club receives the interest every year.
NU’s long-time athletic director Peter Roby has announced his retirement. With the students putting the club on a clear budget, backed by a $100,000 alumni-funded endowment, we’ll have a strong opening conversation with the next AD, just as the Carter Field renovation is finished.
If you can’t commit to the endowment right now, a gift to the students’ Husky Starter campaign helps too. Thank you for any and all contributions. It all goes to cementing the legacy you helped build.
