Unbeaten through four: Tufts, then Fairfield

The Maddogs squad at Carter Playground at night

A 53–7 win over Tufts and a hard-earned 22–13 win at Fairfield, and the B side's shutout streak.

The Maddogs took care of Tufts 53–7, with the second side extending their shutout streak to three straight games with a 12–0 win.

At Fairfield, the Dogs got an early try from Coleman Jackson, then needed clutch kicking from fly half Matt Urrea and a long, late try from wing Sam Moyle to seal a 22–13 win over a tough, up-and-coming Fairfield squad. The B side, playing on back-to-back days, won 24–7 but finally gave up some points to end their shutout streak.

The night before, the B and C sides took on Harvard, coached by alumni Tony Salvatore and Mike Eiden and captained by Dino Andreou. The B side won 10–0 over two 30-minute halves, and the C side lost 10–0 in a single 30-minute period. Harvard would probably tell you it was a tie.

The boys have been showing up to practice 50 strong. First-years Paul and Justin are both new to rugby, coming to Northeastern after serving in the military, and carrying on a strong tradition of Maddog soldiers.

Next: home against Boston College on Saturday, October 9 at 2:30 at Carter Playground, streamed live on the NU Club Sports Facebook page. Then the Dogs travel to Hanover for Dartmouth’s 70th-anniversary alumni celebration on October 16.
