Maddogs end 2016 with a big win
A 75–7 win over Brockport in the ECRC–Empire Challenge, and a push to activate the Wallin Endowment.
The Maddogs ended the 2016 fall season in November by showing the strength of their conference in Saratoga, New York. In the ECRC–Empire Challenge, each East Coast Rugby Conference team met its ranked equivalent from the Empire Conference, and the Dogs dismantled Brockport 75–7 as the ECRC swept the day 6–0.
That result shows the ECRC is one of the premier leagues in the country, and it’s a signal that the Dogs must keep working to keep up with UMass, BC, AIC, Fairfield, NEC, UConn and UAlbany. As friends and alumni, we must do our share to give them the resources they need to compete.
Changes at NU
Jerry Foster, the long-time director of club sports, has retired. Let’s send Jerry a big thank you for his years with us. The new club sports administration under Nick Avery has committed to helping us fundraise and track the club’s finances, and has been a great help to the students and coaches.
The Carter Field renovation has been delayed by issues with the city, and a new university finance system will change how coaching salaries are paid. Through it all, the Maddogs continue to adapt, improvise and overcome.
The endowment
We’re asking every Northeastern Old Boy to give $100 to the Professor Bruce Wallin Endowment by the end of the year. We’re over halfway to the $100,000 goal that activates the endowment, which will give the club a strong voice at the university. The board meets NU officials in January and would like nothing more than to bring a list of 200 NOB donors.
The club is also looking for uniform sponsors to help support the coaching staff. Thank you and happy holidays!
