Winter gathering, and the Hall of Fame's second year

· FONUR

The first Memorial Touch Tournament on January 26, and the nominees for the second Hall of Fame team.

Come celebrate another successful year for the Maddog Rugby Club on Saturday, January 26: touch rugby at 1pm, dinner at 5pm and NU hockey at 7pm. Bring the family.

This year we’ll host the first Maddog Memorial Touch Rugby Tournament in the new club sports dome at Carter Field: an informal tournament of mixed teams of alumni and current players, with a winning team and MVPs. Just show up with your boots and shorts. At dinner we’ll present the club’s financial report and introduce the next Hall of Fame nominations.

The Hall of Fame

With the Ten Ton Scrum comfortably inducted as the first-ever Hall of Fame team (oh, how sweet it is!), the second team will be inducted at Alumni Weekend in 2019, the club’s 35th anniversary. The nominees:

  • The 1989–1990 undefeated fall team
  • The 1994–1995 Criminals
  • The 2003–2004 Maddogs
  • The 2009–2010 Maddogs
  • The 2012–2013 CRC sevens team

How it works. Any FONUR member can nominate any player, coach, fan or contributor connected with Northeastern rugby, by December 31 each year. Nominees must have finished their time with the Maddogs at least five years earlier, and are judged on success on the field at NU, contributions to rugby after NU, and contributions to the Maddogs’ past and ongoing success. A selection committee puts up to 16 candidates on the ballot by March 1, and FONUR members in good standing vote for up to three. At least three individuals are inducted each year, along with anyone who gets more than half the vote.

A team is inducted every five years, starting in 2018 and 2019. Teams are eligible by a single graduation year, including both the fall and spring seasons. The committee nominates three teams and each voting member picks one.
