Iona takes the final, and COVID ends the season
A 19–10 loss in the Liberty final, then the NCR quarter-final at Queens was cancelled.
NU 10, Iona 19. The league finally gave us the competition we deserve, and we let it slip through our fingers. Before the final we had a 19–0 record in the Liberty Conference, and Iona found our number, as our ten-point halftime lead evaporated in a disjointed second half. The loss solidified our bond and showed exactly what this club needs to work on.
That sent the Dogs to the NCR quarter-finals at Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina, on November 20. Then COVID struck the Maddogs, and travel to Charlotte was cancelled the day of the trip.
We are devastated, yet committed to putting health and safety above all else. This pandemic has deflated the aspirations of another senior class, and we’ll have to wait for our sevens season this spring to show college rugby we have what it takes. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who supported the playoff run.
