A Giving Day record, and a CRC invitation

The Maddogs sevens squad at Fairfield

Over $40,000 raised, both alumni challenges won, and an at-large bid to the CRCs.

Once again our alumni participation set the bar for the entire university. We won both the morning Young Alumni and evening Most Alumni challenges, with the most individual alumni donations of any organization at NU, and you helped secure over $40,000 for Maddog rugby. These funds, with the alumni commitments to the Wallin Endowment, our outreach to parents and our sponsorships, have created a reliable revenue stream that is propelling Maddog rugby into the future.

A second-half slip against Iona kept us from the automatic CRC bid. The Dogs rumbled through Cornell and Fairfield in pool play and led Iona at half before letting it slip away. The pack regrouped to win the Plate, beating Syracuse and Nazareth to finish 4–1 on the day. Iona lost the final to AIC.

Despite that, the squad’s excellent play over the past two months earned an at-large bid to the CRCs as the #6 seed in the East bracket. The Maddogs open against South Carolina on Saturday, May 28 in New Orleans.
