Second at the CRC qualifier in Quincy

Wins over Fairfield, Iona and Harvard before falling to Kutztown in the final.
The Maddogs are one step closer to a third invitation to the College Rugby Championships.
In a single-elimination national CRC qualifier at Veterans Stadium in Quincy, played before the Free Jacks’ match, the Dogs took down a tough Fairfield club in a grinding opener, earned a retribution win over Iona in the quarter-final, then beat Harvard in the semi-final. Harvard was riding high after beating Dartmouth, but the Dogs overwhelmed our crosstown nemesis.
The pack was finally contained in an entertaining final by Kutztown, who beat Notre Dame in their semi and took the automatic bid. Second place keeps the Maddogs in the running for a Memorial Day invitation to New Orleans.
This was the club’s third sevens tournament of the season, after Brown and Stony Brook in March. Next up is a Liberty Conference showdown at Colgate, and the fifteens are back on the practice field to get some action this spring.
