A tough start, and great news from France
Losses to Fairfield and Dartmouth, and the Atlantic Coast All-Stars beat Sydney in Bordeaux.
It’s been a tough start. The boys took a double beating in a torrential downpour at home to Fairfield, who took the chance to pile on after we’d had their number the past few years. Then, despite close to 70% of possession, the men lost at Dartmouth, while the women fell at Bowdoin. This era of Maddog rugby may go down as the “Swamp Dogs”, given all the rain we’ve endured on match days.
The boys look to bounce back at Fordham this weekend. With strong leadership from Zack Chau, Sam Sagherian and Dor Perl, and an outstanding bench of coaches in Alex Miccio, Tony Salvatore, Mike Eiden, Danny Collins and Ryan Connolly, they’re in good hands while Coach Ed is in France.
In Bordeaux, Ed is head coach of the Atlantic Coast team, with Tommy Clark of the Free Jacks as team leader, Coleman Jackson and Alvaro Borrego in the squad, and alumnus Eric Graham raising the NU banner. The Atlantic Coast All-Stars beat Sydney on day one. Eric is hosting an event with NU alumni relations, inviting all the universities at the tournament and local NU alumni, and handing out Maddog T-shirts that will carry the NU name back to New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and England.
